Be Happy this New Year!
Let us equip ourselves with proactive ideas and themes, checks and balances in our life areas. This orientation will promote wellbeing for us as well our families, friends and communities -.all throughout the year.
In the poem "Daffodils" William Wordsworth captures the quiet beauty and liveliness of nature that can uplift drooping spirits. The "show" of brightly coloured daffodils " tossing their heads in sprightly dance" is a "herald of Spring" - bringing in optimism of renewal and new beginnings.
The poet also conveys the power of joyous memories to transform our moods of melancholy and loneliness to evoke tranquility and joy.
A holistic approach to be happy, would emphasize self-care as well as connecting with others We can start with ourselves and practice self-care, orienting for our overall wellbeing. However, we also need to focus on giving and receiving pleasant or joyful experiences in our people relationships.
Our be-happy life model can
be built upon themes and ideas such as follows
New opportunities and interests: searching for new opportunities and interests and pursuing them consistently, with satisfaction and joy. This also implies that we let go our fixations on loss-making or unhealthy or stressful - works, commitments and activities. A smooth transition to a better alternative can be done progressively, with adequate checks and balances ( rather than impulsively.)
Food Health: eating healthy and mindfully. Adequate sleep and rest.
Exercise: exercising regularly to maintain a healthy body and mind
Nature nurtures: being outdoors and drawing inspirations from nature and staying physically active
Work-life approach: maintaining a healthy work-life balance helps us to attain security without compromising unduly, our health, personal and family interests
Mental wellbeing: Coping with stress, learning how to manage stressful life experiences and situations. Practicing mindfulness that improves focus on our personal needs and on our surroundings. Faith, prayer and meditation give us spiritual joy and security during hard times.
Focus on Change, Resilience and Self- renewal: letting go of regrets and failures, wrong comparisons with others, and faulty role models and ideologies. - Instead, let us focus on our ability to Change - correcting our past mistakes, changing our attitudes by training our minds to inculcate objective optimism
These steps will enable us to build resilience and self-renew. These principles will guide our efforts to give better results that will boost our self confidence and sense of wellbeing

Healthy Relationships with family and friends brings meaning, mutual support, security, entertainment - fun and laughter, in our lives
